The American College of Cardiology recently honored two NYU Langone faculty members:

JUDITH HOCHMAN, Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Sciences, the Harold Snyder Family Professor of Cardiology, and Associate Director of the Leon Charney Division of Cardiology, won the Distinguished Scientist Award in the Clinical Domain
SRIPAL BANGALORE, Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, was awarded the Douglas P. Zipes Distinguished Young Scientist Award

TOM KIRCHNER, Clinical Associate Professor at the College of Global Public Health and Associated Professor at the Center for Urban Science and Progress, has been awarded the Jarvik-Russell Early Career Award from the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco.

JOHN HORTON, Assistant Professor of Information, Operations, and Management Sciences at Stern, was recently honored with a 2016 Early Career Research Award from the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research.

OSKAR EUSTIS, Arts Professor in Tisch School of the Arts, was honored with a 2016 Tony nomination, along with the other producers of Best Play contender Eclipsed.

TARA A. CORTES, Professor of Geriatric Nursing at the Rory Meyers College of Dentistry and Executive Director of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing, was invited by Sylvia Burwell, United States Secretary of Health and Human Services, to serve on the Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry. Cortes is the first nurse appointed to serve on this committee.

The University recognized the newest incumbents of the Silver Professorships at a ceremony in March. Named in honor of Julius Silver, Roslyn S. Silver, and Enid Silver Winslow, the Silver Professorships strengthen the Faculty of Arts and Science and the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, emphasize the importance of undergraduate education, and ensure the advancement of the sciences at NYU. In March, MARC GERSHOW, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics, and KATHERINE NAGEL, Assistant Professor of Neuroscience and Physiology at the School of Medicine, were named Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellows. Last fall, Marc received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award, which supports his efforts to gain new insight into the sense of smell.

This year’s 175 recipients were chosen from nearly 3,000 applicants in the United States and Canada.

Sokol Professor of Chemistry NADRIAN SEEMAN was honored with The Franklin Institute’s 2016 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Chemistry. Nadrian was also recognized by the Association of American Publishers, winning the 2016 PROSE Award in the category of biological science for his book Structural DNA Nanotechnology, an introduction to the field he founded.

The AAP also recognized DENNIS GERONIMUS, Associate Professor of Art History, who received an honorable mention in the "Art Exhibitions" category for Piero di Cosimo: The Poetry of Painting in Renaissance Florence, an exhibition catalog he co-edited accompanying the show of the same name at the National Gallery of Art.

The American Chemical Society has named JIN KIM MONTCLARE, Associate Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Tandon School of Engineering, a 2016 Rising Star.

EMILY BALCETIS, Associate Professor of Psychology at FAS, has been named a winner of the 2016 Early Career Impact Award by the Federation of Associations in Behavioral and Brain Sciences.

ULJANA WOLF, Adjunct Professor of German at FAS, has won the 2016 Adelbert von Chamisso Prize, a literary prize awarded by the Robert Bosch Foundation to authors writing in the German language whose literature is affected by cultural changes.

ARUN SUNDARARAJAN, Professor of Information, Operations and Management Sciences at Stern and an affiliated faculty member at the Center for Urban Science and Progress and the Center for Data Science, was recently named to the 2016 Thinkers50 Radar list of the "30 thinkers most likely to shape the future of how organizations are managed and led."

KENJI YOSHINO, the Chief Justice Earl Warren Professor of Constitutional Law, has won the Israel Fishman Non-Fiction Award in the 2016 Stonewall Book Awards, given by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table of the American Library Association for his book, Speak Now: Marriage Equality on Trial.

TODD GURECKIS, Associate Professor of Psychology at FAS, has been awarded a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers.

SAMUEL CRAIG, the Catherine and Peter Kellner Professor of Entrepreneurship and Arts and Media Management at the Stern School of Business, has been named the Best Academic Reviewer for 2015 by the Journal of Advertising Research.

MARTHA HODES, Professor of History, has been named winner of the 2016 Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize for her book Mourning Lincoln. The prize is awarded annually by Gettysburg College and the Gilder Lehman Institute of American History for the finest scholarly work on Abraham Lincoln or the American Civil War.

JENNIFER JACQUET, Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Studies at FAS, has been named a winner of the Wildlife Crime Tech Challenge, an initiative of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) that rewards innovative science and technology solutions that tackle specific wildlife trafficking issues. One of 16 winners chosen from among 300 applicants, she will receive $10,000 and technical assistance to further her project on the internet wildlife trade. Jennifer also received a Pew Fellowship in Marine Conservation, which will support her three-year project on the feasibility of altering fisheries policies on the high seas.

BRUCE BUENO DE MESQUITA, Silver Professor of Politics at FAS, has won the International Studies Association’s 2016 Susan Strange Award for his work on rational choice models of decision-making and on connecting domestic and international political processes.

JONATHAN FREEMAN, Assistant Professor of Psychology at FAS, has received a 2016 SAGE Young Scholar Award, recognizing young researchers in personality and social psychology.

VINCENT GUILAMO-RAMOS, Professor of Social Work and Global Public Health, was inducted into the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare in January, 2016. In February, he was named a Presidential Leadership Scholar; during this six-month, executive-style program, Vincent will continue to work on his Fathers Raising Responsible Men project. Additionally, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) has awarded Vincent and his three collaborators with its 2015 Award for Innovative Teaching for their inter-professional course on migration in Puebla, Mexico.

The CWSE also recently recognized SSSW Professors MARY MCKAY, JEANE ANASTAS, and S. LALA STRAUSSNER for their mentorship of women in social work education.

JOHN SCOFIELD, Adjunct Instructor in the Steinhardt School’s jazz studies program and internationally acclaimed jazz guitarist, was named the winner of the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Album for his album Past Present. He was also nominated for Best Jazz Solo Performance.

Associate Professor of Music Composition JULIA WOLFE was also nominated for a Best Contemporary Classical Composition Grammy for her Pulitzer Prize-winning composition Anthracite Fields.

KIKI SMITH, Studio Art faculty at the Steinhardt School, has received the 2016 Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award from the International Sculpture Center.

A paper by the Stern School’s ANINDYA GHOSE, Professor of Information, Operations, and Management Sciences, Professor of Marketing, and Director of the Center for Business Analytics, won the Best Paper Award from MIS Quarterly and the Best Publication Award from the Association for Information Systems. The paper, entitled “Internet’s Dirty Secret,” was co-authored by Jason Chan (Stern PhD'14).

MARY LEOU, Clinical Professor of Teaching and Learning and director of the Steinhardt School's Wallerstein Collaborative for Urban Environmental Education, was named the 2015 recipient of the City Gardens Club of New York City Melville Award, recognizing excellence in educating children or young adults about the environment.

GREGORY DOBLER, Research Assistant Professor of Physics and Associate Director for Physical Sciences at the Center for Urban Science and Progress, is one of the recipients of the 21st Century Science Initiative Awards. The award will provide funding for Dobler’s project, "Understanding the Complex Urban System through Remote Imaging."

ANDREW NEEDHAM, Associate Professor of History, was awarded the American Society for Environmental History’s George Perkins Marsh Prize for Best Book in Environmental History for his book Power Lines: Phoenix and the Making of the Modern Southwest.

The American Heart Association has awarded its 2015 Basic Research Prize to GLENN FISHMAN, the William Goldring Professor of Medicine and director of the Leon H. Charney Division of Cardiology at NYU Langone.

ELISABETH COHEN, Professor of Ophthalmology at NYU Langone, has been awarded the Castroviejo Medal by the Cornea Society.

SPIKE LEE, Artistic Director of the Graduate Film Program at Tisch School of the Arts, has won an Honorary Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

EMILY MARTIN, Professor of Anthropology at FAS, has received the SANA (Society for the Anthropology of North America) Prize for Distinguished Achievement in the Critical Study of North America.

JONARDON GANERI, Global Network Professor of Philosophy at FAS and Professor of Philosophy at NYU Abu Dhabi, has won the 2015 Infosys Prize in the Humanities category, given by the Infosys Science Foundation.

ROBERT STAM, University Professor in the Department of Cinema Studies at Tisch with an affiliated appointment at NYU Abu Dhabi, has been awarded the 2015 Jim Welsh Prize for Excellence in Adaptation Studies from the Literature/Film Association.

TOMIE ARAJ, Adjunct Instructor at the Steinhardt School, was named a recipient of the 2016 WCA Lifetime Achievement Awards by the Women’s Caucus for Art.

The College of Dentistry’s XIN LI, Assistant Professor in the Department of Basic Science and Craniofacial Biology, has won the Society for Basic Urologic Research (SBUR) Young Investigator Award.

PANČE NAUMOV, Associate Professor of Chemistry at NYU Abu Dhabi, has been awarded the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award by Germany’s Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, to conduct research at the Max Planck Institute for Solid-State Research in Stuttgart.

LEIF RISTROPH, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the Courant Institute, has won the 2014 George E. Valley, Jr. Prize of the American Physical Society.

REBECCA NEWBERGER GOLDSTEIN, who joined NYU as Visiting Professor in the spring, was named a 2014 National Humanities Medal recipient.

SUSAN GERBINO, Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Zelda Foster Studies Program in Palliative and End-of-Life Care at the Silver School of Social Work, has received the 2015 Association of Oncology Social Work’s Quality of Life in Cancer Care Award.

HARRY FIRST, the Charles L. Denison Professor of Law, received the Jerry S. Cohen Award for Antitrust Scholarship with his co-author Andrew Gavil at the American Antitrust Institute’s Annual Conference for their book The Microsoft Antitrust Cases: Competition Policy for the Twenty-First Century.

AMY BENTLEY, Associate Professor of Food Studies at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, has received the Association for the Study of Food and Society 2015 Book Award for Inventing Baby Food: Taste, Health, and the Industrialization of the American Diet. The book was also nominated for a James Beard Award.
