NYU mourns the passing of Naomi Levine, who, as senior vice president for external affairs and a chief fundraiser for more than two decades, was an indomitable force at this university. Levine was critical in turning New York University into the influential, world-class institution it is today. A passionate activist, she worked for many civil rights causes, guided by a fierce belief in justice.

We also mourn the passing of Rory Meyers, namesake for our College of Nursing. She was a humanitarian who believed deeply in the transformative role nursing plays in patients’ lives. The first in her family to go to college, she understood firsthand the need of funding. To that end, she bestowed a $30 million naming gift that was the largest donation to a nursing school in history.
