Take a closer look at our cover for this issue—“Rethinking AI.” With a hyper-collaborative approach, award-winning faculty, and a groundbreaking institute, the subject is being taught, studied, and applied seemingly everywhere throughout NYU.
A NOTE TO OUR READERS: This issue was nearly ready for press when COVID-19 hit. We decided to move forward with the content before you despite the fact that it glaringly does not focus on the devastating global pandemic or the university’s myriad efforts to help fight it on multiple fronts. Our hope is that these off-topic articles will prove a source of inspiration and, perhaps, provide some much-needed distraction. The next issue of this magazine will highlight the vital work being done at your alma mater and by your fellow alumni. Those stories will reinforce the symbolism of our school’s torch logo: that NYU should be a beacon, a light in the darkness.
Also shining bright is the Empire State Building (pictured at top), which glowed violet and white on May 19 to honor our resilient NYU 2020 grads in a commencement season unlike any other.
