"The University is closely monitoring developments in Abu Dhabi. We are in contact with the leadership of our campus there, and are relieved to report that no members of the NYU Abu Dhabi community are among the casualties. Moreover, we are unaware of any indications of any threat to the safety of NYUAD students, faculty, administrators, and staff, and the campus. Below is a statement from Mariet Westermann, NYUAD's Vice Chancellor, to the community there.”

Dear Members of the NYUAD Community,

You may be aware that UAE authorities are investigating an explosion and fires in the Mussafah industrial area and near the airport in Abu Dhabi this morning that caused three deaths.

As always, the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community are our highest priority. To our knowledge, no member of our community is directly affected. The airport is open and air traffic is normal. Leadership at NYU Abu Dhabi, NYU, and our global safety operations continue to monitor the situation closely in collaboration with authorities, and we will continue to provide updates to the NYUAD community as they become available. In the meantime, please limit unnecessary local travel and be aware of your surroundings at all times.

While we continue to prepare for the spring semester, please take care of yourselves and each other.

Mariët
