Seventeen alumni from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts received a total of 18 Emmy® Awards, including both Creative Emmy Awards, which were announced September 14 through 20, and Primetime Emmy Awards, which were announced at the 72nd Annual Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 20 in an unprecedented virtual ceremony hosted live by Jimmy Kimmel.

NYU alumni took home awards in a range of categories. Andrij Parekh (TSOA '03) won the Emmy for Outstanding Direction for the episode "Hunting" of HBO's drama series, Succession. Damon Lindelof (TSOA '95) and Nicole Kassell (TSOA '02) celebrated wins for their work on HBO's Watchmen, which took the top spot for program nominations this year with 26 in total. David West Read (TSOA '10) won an Emmy as an Executive Producer on Schitt's Creek, which won Outstanding Comedy Series; the show took home nine Emmys in total, making history with the most ever wins for a comedy in a single year.

The Emmys are awarded annually by the Television Academy in recognition of excellence in primetime programming and individual achievement for the 2019 – 2020 television season.
