"Being able to unlock stories from people is really important to me," says NYU Steinhardt senior Bashir Abdulkareem, an aspiring photographer, son of Sundanese immigrants, and president of the Gentlemen of Quality, the largest student organization for men of color on campus. He says that it's only because of the support of New York's Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), which turned 50 this year, that he was able to attend his dream school. We're honored to celebrate World Access to Higher Education Day with stories like Bashir's.
