Food Tank, Salon.com and NYU Steinhardt partner on evening speaker series in NYC. First guests include Joel Berg, Raymond Figueroa Jr., Qiana Mickie, Noreen Springstead and other prominent food figures.
In collaboration with New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development and Salon.com, Food Tank, America’s fastest-growing nonprofit research and advocacy organization in food and agriculture, announced a free monthly evening speaker series to discuss critical food systems issues like hunger, poverty and nutrition. The first forum will take place on Tuesday, May 14 in New York City at NYU Steinhardt’s Pless Hall.
The First Forum: Equity in the Food System
The first event in the series, taking place on May 14, is titled Equity in the Food System. This forum will focus on increasing access to healthier, affordable and equitable food in all five boroughs of New York City and across the country.
After a welcome by Food Tank President Danielle Nierenberg and Krishnendu Ray, Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies at NYU Steinhardt, the program will consist of three short conversations: a Q&A with Noreen Springstead, Executive Director, WhyHunger moderated by Manny Howard, Executive Producer, Salon.com; a conversation with Joel Berg, CEO, Hunger Free America moderated by Ellen J. Wulfhorst, Chief Correspondent, Americas, Thomson Reuters Foundation; a session with Raymond Figueroa Jr., President, New York City Community Garden Coalition moderated by Chloe Sorvino, Staff Writer, Forbes; and a conversation with Qiana Mickie, Executive Director, Just Food moderated by Danielle Nierenberg, President, Food Tank.
This event and the following three in the series will take place at NYU Steinhardt’s Pless Hall (82 Washington Square E, New York, NY 10003) from 7-8:30 p.m. Following the forum there will be a reception for event’s attendees.

Future Forums
The second forum in the series, scheduled for June 11, will focus on the future of technology in the food system and is titled, Good Tech in Good Food. Special guests and moderators will include: Roee Adler, SVP, Global Head of WeWork Labs, WeWork; Alexander Gillett, CEO, HowGood; Jennifer Goggin, Co-Founder, Startle Innovation; Bertha Jimenez, CEO, RISE Products and more to be announced. Other upcoming topics include Eating for a Healthier and Sustainable Planet on July 16 and Healthy Food at Every Age on August 13.
Each of the events will be aired as part of a Facebook Live series in partnership with Facebook Community Leadership Program (FCLP). The series will also be released on Food Tank’s iTunes podcast.
