Twenty-seven alumni and one professor from New York University received a total of 19 Tony Award nominations, recognizing excellence in producing, writing, directing, acting, scenic design, costume design, lighting design, and choreography on Broadway.

They include the following NYU schools: the Tisch School of the Arts, the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, the School of Law, the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, the Stern School of Business, the College of Dentistry, the College of Arts and Science (formerly known as Washington Square Undergraduate College), and the Graduate School of Arts and Science.

In addition, a Special Tony Award will be presented to John Leguizamo (TISCH), who will be recognized for his body of work and for his commitment to the theatre, bringing diverse stories and audiences to Broadway for three decades. Leguizamo also earned a nomination for Best Play for Latin History for Morons.

The nominations were announced on May 1, 2018. Now in their 72nd year, the American Theatre Wing’s Annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards® honor excellence on Broadway in 26 competitive categories. The nominees are selected by an independent committee of 43 theater professionals appointed by the Tony Awards Administration Committee. Tony Award winners are selected by 842 designated Tony voters comprised of producers, performers, and other industry professionals. The awards ceremony, presented by the Broadway League and the American Theater Wing and hosted by Tony Award Nominees Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban, will broadcast live on CBS on Sunday, June 10, 2018.
