The recognition is a joint project of the Music Technology and Songwriting Programs in the Department of Music and Performing Arts (MPAP).

Killen has worked with some of the premier pop artists in the music industry, including U2, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Elvis Costello, and Sugarland. Most recently, he recorded and mixed the Original Cast Album of Bowie’s Lazarus and recorded Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, for producer Tony Visconti. He co-produced and mixed the latest Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble release, Sing Me Home. At this year’s Grammy Awards, held on Feb. 12, Killen won three Grammys for Sing Me Home and Blackstar.

Killen, who is also an adjunct professor at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, is scheduled to teach Production For Songwriters, a new Steinhardt course that will be launched in the fall of 2017. He is currently recording and mixing the Original Broadway Cast album for Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812.

As Music Tech Artist-In-Residence, Killen will participate in a series of events from Feb. 22-24, 2017, including speaking with students studying audio production and songwriting and reviewing student songs and productions in-progress. He will also take part in FRIDAY@1, MPAP’s speaker series about the creative process, during which he will be interviewed about his career by Phil Galdston, NYU Faculty Songwriter-in-Residence and Director of Songwriting.

As Music Tech Artist-in-Residence, Killen follows notable record producers and recording engineers, including Elliot Scheiner, Al Schmitt, George Massenburg, and Jimmy Douglass.
