The Center for Ballet and the Arts at New York University, the world’s first and only institution dedicated to the scholarly study and artistic exploration and creation of ballet and its related disciplines, has opened applications for its 2017-2018 Fellowship Program. The program is open to artists and scholars of all disciplines who wish to develop individual or collaborative projects related to the study, exploration, and creation of ballet.

The Center for Ballet and the Arts has supported fellowships since its founding in 2014, and has supported 50 fellows to date, among them puppeteer Basil Twist, recording artist Suzanne Vega, filmmaker Frederick Wiseman, choreographer Jessica Lang, and philosopher J. David Velleman.
The program provides fellows with a stipend, access to studio and office space, an apartment in some cases, and time away from daily life to focus on their specified project – a book, a ballet, a film, a digital lecture series or other work of their imagining related in some way to ballet.

The deadline for 2017-2018 applications is December 1, 2016. For more information on the Fellowship program or on the Center for Ballet and the Arts at NYU, visit the website.

Established in fall 2014 by former dancer and historian Jennifer Homans, the Center for Ballet and the Arts at NYU is an international institute for scholars and artists of ballet and its related arts and sciences. It exists to inspire new ideas and new ballets, expanding the way we think about ballet and bringing vitality to its history, practice, and performance in the 21st century. The Center for Ballet and the Arts is made possible by major support from
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and New York University.
