Statement from NYU Spokesman John Beckman On the Matter Involving Professor Michael Rectenwald

As he indicated in his remarks to the student newspaper—where Professor Rectenwald described accounts in the New York Post and other media as "exaggerated"—his leave is voluntary; it was not demanded by the University and is unconnected to his social media postings.  He requested the leave, and we look forward to having him back when he is ready.

His leave has absolutely nothing to do with his Twitter account or his opinions on issues of the day.
