Families marched through Washington Square Park accompanied by NYU dancers and cheerleaders as well as a Brooklyn High School marching band. The parade featured NYU President Andrew Hamilton and his wife, Jennifer (Jenny) Hamilton, together with Senator Brad Hoylman and three community leaders: Shirley Secunda, Chair of Traffic and Transportation Committee of Manhattan Community Board 2; Betsey Ely, Chairwoman of the Washington Square Park Conservancy; and Kathy Donaldson, President of the Bedford Barrow Commerce Block Association.

"This is the first Halloween Day parade that my wife Jenny and I have presided at, and it is truly magnificent," said President Hamilton. "Jenny and I look forward to many more spooky Halloween evenings and parades in the future!"

After the parade, parade-goers gathered on West 3rd Street for opening remarks, rides, candy, and performances.
