Faculty and alumni of the Tisch School of the Arts and the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at NYU received a total of 14 Tony Award nominations, recognizing excellence in producing, writing, acting, scenic design, costume design, and directing. The nominations were announced on May 2, 2016 by Andrew Rannells and Nikki M. James.

Now in their 70th year, the American Theatre Wing’s Annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards honor excellence on Broadway in 24 competitive categories.  The nominees are selected by an independent committee of 47 theater experts appointed by the Tony Awards Administration Committee.  Tony Award winners will next be considered by 846 Tony voters comprised of producers, performers, and other industry professionals. The awards ceremony, presented by the Broadway League and the American Theater Wing and hosted by James Corden, will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016 and broadcast on CBS.
