The Executive-in-Residence position was established to enhance student exposure to proven innovators in the music business through customized educational and mentorship programming.
"Our main focus is to provide our students access to the music industry’s foremost executives, producers, talent, and entrepreneurs so that they can learn directly from those who are doing it,” said Jeffrey Rabhan, Chair of the Clive Davis Institute. “It's this idea of experiential education that enables us to expand our curriculum far beyond the classroom. Josh is one of the most well-known and respected executives in the industry and as our Executive-in-Residence, he will be able to share industry insight and open new doors for our students."
As part of his year-long residency, Deutsch will engage in the following activities:
- Educational programming: develop and administer workshops and seminars for students, in conjunction with Recorded Music faculty, for integrating into the existing Recorded Music curriculum;
- Lectures: conduct a series of on-campus lectures on convergence, the new music economy, issues in rights management, and the digital media landscape;
- Innovation: work with ReMu faculty to develop partnerships with industry, including working with Jeff Rabhan and other faculty to establish “The Incubator,” which will help foster the establishment of student-led music start ups; and
- Guidance and Mentorship: engage in one-on-one mentoring with students, including a Capstone A&R Clinic, encompassing at least four six-hour sessions comprised of lectures and personalized critique and suggestions.
In his role as CEO, Deutsch oversees the operations and creative direction of Downtown Records, Immortal Music Publishing and Downtown Events, and plays an active role in the recorded music, music publishing, and live events businesses.
