The best costume designs and stage sets produced by graduating masters students in the NYU Tisch Department of Design for Stage and Film are on display through May 19 at Design Show 2015. The annual show, which is attended by established designers and industry professionals looking for new talent, is free and open to members of the public who are interested in the next wave of performing arts design.
Design Show 2015 features the work of 18 artists and is publicly viewable from noon till 8 p.m. daily. The show is installed in the 3rd floor Design Studio at the Tisch School of the Arts, located at 721 Broadway (btw. Waverly and Washington Pl.) and comprises hundreds of designs for realized productions and studio projects for theatre, film, and dance in a wide variety of media, including scale models for theatre and film, original costumes, production photographs, and sketches.
The designers are all members of the 2015 graduating class and have completed the three-year MFA program. Students learn from some of the most respected and prolific names in stage and film design, including department chair and Tony award-winning costume designer Susan Hilferty (“Wicked,” Metropolitan Opera’s “Rigoletto,”), associate chair and lighting designer Mary Louise Geiger (2013 Helen Hayes Award Outstanding Lighting Design “Invisible Man”) and internationally renowned set designer Paul Steinberg (English National Opera, Covent Garden, Glyndebourne Festival and Metropolitan Opera’s recent “Un Ballo in Maschera”).
