On Sunday, April 19, 2015, starting at 11am (rain or shine), oral cancer survivors and their families will join dental and nursing students, residents, and faculty of New York University Colleges of Dentistry and Nursing for New York City’s 10th Annual Oral Cancer Walk. This year’s participants will walk in Brooklyn to raise awareness of oral and pharyngeal cancer, a disease that kills over 8,000 American men and women each year. The key to survival is awareness, prevention, and early detection. If detected in its earliest stages, oral cancer is easily treated.
Last year’s NYC Oral Cancer walk was the most successful one to date, attracting more than 600 walkers and raising over $60,000. This year, the goal will be to double both the number of walkers and the funds raised.
NYU's dental office on wheels, the Smiling Faces, Going Places Van, will be on site at the end of the walk to offer free oral cancer screenings, which will be provided by NYU College of Dentistry students and faculty with the assistance and support of the dental van program's dental assistant, beginning at 11am.
