NYU fundraising totaled $618 million in 2014-15, almost $14 million more than the year before, exceeding the projected fundraising goal by more than $108 million, and marking the second most successful year for fundraising in NYU’s history.

NYU fundraising totaled $618 million in 2014-15, almost $14 million more than the year before, exceeding the projected fundraising goal by more than $108 million, and marking the second most successful year for fundraising in NYU’s history.
Since 2002, NYU has raised nearly $6 billion, including seven nine-figure gifts ($100 million or more), a number equaled only by Harvard among U.S. colleges and universities over that period.
Scholarship aid: In 2013, NYU announced the Momentum Campaign to raise $1 billion for scholarship aid:
• In 2014-15, the University received nearly $127 million towards the $1 billion goal, bringing the total received to date to $498 million.
• Scholarship gifts in 2014-15 include:
o $8.1 million from an anonymous donor for the School of Medicine
o $8 million from an anonymous donor for scholarships at the Law School and Stern School of Business
o $6 million from the estate of Rita Post Hertzig for the College of Arts and Science and the Stern School of Business
o $5 million from William Berkley for the Tandon School of Engineering
o $5 million from Larry Silverstein for the School of Medicine
o $5 million from an anonymous donor for the Stern School of Business
Major Gifts: In 2014-15, NYU received 18 gifts of $5 million or more, up from 10 such gifts in 2010-11, accounting for 41% of total giving, compared to 30% of total giving in 2010-11. Among the major gifts in 2014-15 were:
o $100 million from Chandrika and Ranjan Tandon to name the School of Engineering
o $25 million from the Paolo and Marlene Fresco Foundation to establish the international Marlene and Paolo Fresco Institute for Parkinson’s & Movement Disorders at NYU Langone Medical Center
o $20 million from Hansjӧrg Wyss to establish a named Department of Plastic Surgery at the School of Medicine
o $11.5 million from Baroness Mariuccia Zerilli-Marimò to establish a program support fund at the Casa Italiana Zerilli- Marimò
Record International Giving: Since 2010-11 – as NYU’s global presence and prominence began to increase with the creation of NYU Abu Dhabi, NYU Shanghai, and new Study Away sites – gifts from international donors have quadrupled, reaching a record $85.8 million this year.
Annual Giving: More than 38,000 alumni/ae, parents, and friends gave $33.5 million to the annual Fund for NYU – the second highest yearly amount on record.
Record Giving by Graduating Seniors: Last year’s graduating seniors set a record for giving to the 1831 Fund, which goes for scholarship aid:
• A record 1,144 seniors donated to the 1831 Fund, 40% more than the year prior, for a total of over $24,000 to go to scholarship aid.
