The Department of Dance at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts will present a one-night-only concert of works by female alumni choreographers at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, February 28, 2014.
The Department of Dance at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts will present a one-night-only concert of works by female alumni choreographers at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, February 28, 2014.
Entitled Past/Forward, 2014: A Tisch Dance Alumni Celebration; Women at Work, the program will feature works of host of alumna including: Suzanne Beahrs, Selina Chau, Rachel Hagan, Allison Schieler, Kristin Schwab, and Chihiro Shimizu, as well as Charlotte Boye-Christensen, choreographing a work for the Second Avenue Dance Company, Tisch Dance’s student company. The program will also feature a screening of “Contemporary Swing,” a dance film by Mary John Frank.
Past/Forward, co-produced by the Department of Dance and the Skirball Center, highlights the work of several generations of Tisch Dance choreographers, and is part of a regular occurring series that presents the work of Tisch Dance alumni. The alumni choreographers featured range from newly graduated and emerging choreographers who are beginning their careers to established choreographers who are presenting work nationally and internationally.
“Despite the abundance of women in dance, choreography remains an area in which women are still underrepresented, so this year’s Past/Forward celebrates female choreographers and the unique sensibility they bring to the profession,” said Cherylyn Lavignino, chair of the NYU Tisch Dance department. “We’re particularly fortunate to have such diverse, talented artists amongst our NYU alumnas, so we’re confident this show of their work with both entertain and inspire.”
Past/Forward will take place for one night only on Friday, February 28, 2014, at NYU’s Skirball Center, located at 566 LaGuardia Place (at Washington Square South). Curtain is at 8 p.m. General admission is $18; students and seniors are $15. Proceeds from the concert will be used to support future presentations showcasing the talents of Tisch Dance alumni.
