Deutsches Haus of New York University will present a panel discussion on “Generation War,” a German WWII mini-series, on MONDAY, JANUARY 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the acclaimed cultural center located at 42 Washington Mews, New York, N.Y. (enter the Mews from University Place). The event is free and open to the public.
“Generation War” follows for four years the lives of five young Germans who gather in Berlin, 1941, to celebrate their friendship and bid one another farewell. The mini-series was a popular sensation in Germany, seen by more than 7 million and sparking passion debate. Two brothers become Wehrmacht soldiers on the Eastern Front; a third man – a Jew – faces deportation to the camps and abuse by Polish partisans. Both women are profoundly compromised: one as an army nurse, another while trying to advance her career as “the next Marlene Dietrich.”
The lively and illuminating conversation will include scholars, writers, and artists Oliver Mahrdt, Yascha Mounk, Andrew Nagorski, Ingrid Scheib-Rothbart, and Anne-Katrin Titze.
