The Kimmel Galleries of New York University are pleased to present Interpreted Bodies: Sculpture and Form, a group exhibition. The exhibition includes works by Elizabeth Allison, Kiley Ames, Allston Chapman, Montserrat Daubon, Donat King, and Nicolai Nickson.
INTERPRETED BODIES is on display 24/7 in the street-level Kimmel Windows Gallery, located at La Guardia Place & West 3rd St, through August 15th, 2014. [Subways A, C, E, B, D, F, M to West 4th Street; 6 line to Astor Place; R train to 8th Street]. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
Curated by Pamela Jean Tinnen, this exhibition examines the broad, yet cohesive nature of contemporary figurative sculpture through the lens of a range of medium including stone, fabric, bronze, metal, and resin. The featured works demonstrate the qualities that tread the boundaries of universal beauty and form.
The sculptures are a tribute to the various states and forms of humanity and the body. Some of the sculptures portray a complete body, while others represent fragments. Some appear to be bound and even afflicted by gravity, while others appear to be uplifted, looking off into the distance.
The exhibition combines these works to illustrate the array of human emotion. The figures all appear to be in a state of reflection, with their emotion varying from depressed to oblivious to optimistic. The works, mirroring their artists, who themselves represent the limitless boundaries of artistic passion, having traversed the globe to settle in New York.
