The spring events percussion series, sponsored by the Percussion Studies Program at the NYU Steinhardt School for Culture, Education and Human Development, continues with a variety of public performances at the Frederick Loewe Theater at 35 West 4th street, between Green Street and Washington Square East.
Included in the line up are the NYU Marimba Ensemble (April 21), the NYU African Gyil and Percussion Ensemble (May 1), and a performance by NYU Steel with special guest Kyle Dunleavy and the Crossfire Steelband (May 3).
The hallmark event of the series will be a performance by the NYU Percussion Ensemble on May 5, which will feature the world premiere of Bobby Previte’s Terminals, together with the world renowned So Percussion. This evening length work will utilize the entire spectrum of percussion instruments available, ranging from marimbas, vibraphones, and timpani to talking drums, brake drums, and truck spring coils.
