NYU Steinhardt and the Jhumki Basu Foundation will host more than 50 New York City public schools to share innovative STEM teaching methods. The Jhumki Basu Foundation is named in honor of a late NYU Steinhardt professor of science education whose vision and passion was to achieve equity in science education.

NYU Steinhardt Hosts STEM Education Expo, May 8

EVENT: Sponsored by New York University, the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, and the Jhumki Basu Foundation, this middle and high school student science fair will gather students and teachers from more than 50 New York City public schools, as well as researchers, policy makers, and leading educational, governmental, non-profit, and corporate organizations, to share innovative teaching methods for underserved schools. The Jhumki Basu Foundation is named in honor of Jhumki Basu, late NYU Steinhardt professor of science education. The mission of the Foundation is to carry Basu’s legacy forward and build on her vision and passion to achieve equity in science education.

The event will also feature the launch of Basu’s biographical text "Mission to Teach: The Life and Legacy of a Revolutionary Educator," written by her father, Dipak Basu.

“NYU Steinhardt is honored to co-host the Sci-Ed Expo for the fourth year and to partner with the Jhumki Basu Foundation in advancing STEM education in New York City schools,” said NYU Steinhardt Dean Mary Brabeck. “This year we are pleased to celebrate the release of Mission to Teach, which captures Jhumki’s indomitable spirit and reminds us of the importance of this national cause.”
