NYU graduates Patricia Irwin and Gregory Zinman have been named New Faculty Fellows by the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), the New York-based organization announced.
Irwin holds a Ph.D. in linguistics from NYU’s Graduate School of Arts and Science (2012) and will begin a two-year appointment at the University of Pennsylvania this fall; Zinman has a Ph.D. in cinema studies (2012) from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and will begin a two-year stint at Columbia University in September.
The New Faculty Fellows program, supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, has fostered the careers of nearly 170 humanities Ph.D.s since its inception in 2009. This year, 22 awardees—recent Ph.D.s from a range of humanistic disciplines—will take up two-year positions at participating universities across the country.
In addition to a $50,000 stipend and a $5,000 research allowance, each fellow receives a faculty mentor at the host university to support the fellow’s integration into the academic community.
