The Center for Latino Adolescent and Family Health at New York University’s Silver School of Social Work (CLAFH) will hold a briefing via phone on Thursday, April 25, 12:30- to-1:30 p.m., with Planned Parenthood Federation of America to announce the results of a new poll of U.S. Latinos. The poll shows overwhelming support for sex education and access to birth control to reduce teen pregnancy.
Amid continued declines in teen pregnancy among Latinos, 87 percent of U.S. Latinos believe that it is very important for teens to avoid getting pregnant or causing a pregnancy. Only 3.6 percent do not see this as important for teens. The nationally representative poll sheds light on attitudes toward sex education, access to birth control and the shared responsibility to address this issue.
The poll was commissioned by Planned Parenthood in collaboration with CLAFH, and was conducted by GfK Custom Research, LLC.
For the briefing’s dial-in information, contact Catherine Lozada at 212-261 4502 or Catherine.email@example.com.
While teen pregnancy rates have declined significantly in the last two decades, four in ten Latina teens will experience at least one pregnancy before the age of 20 and they are one and a half times more likely than white non-Latina teen moms to have a repeat teen birth.
