Panelists to Include Top Athletes, Sports Media Professionals, and NYU Sports Medicine and Management Experts

The New York University Sports & Society Program will host the 2nd Annual Sports in America Series: The Arthur Miller Dialogues. The event, titled “Young Athletes: The Costs, Sacrifices, and Consequences,” will be held on November 19, 2012 and will take the form of a panel discussion that will be moderated by Arthur Miller, NYU University Professor and NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS) director of Public Dialogues.

A collaboration between the NYU-SCPS Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management and NYU Langone Medical Center, the event will feature top athletes, sports media professionals, and sports medicine and management experts who will explore a diverse array of perspectives on the risks young athletes take in their pursuit of athletic achievement, college scholarship, and fame.

“The pressure to achieve athletic success brings with it substantial risks to the health and the well-being of young athletes,” noted Arthur Miller. “This panel discussion will focus upon how medical professionals, educators, parents, coaches, and business and community leaders can work together to better protect this generation and future generations of athletes as they pursue their dreams.”
