Chives (Allium schoenoprasum) on the Green Roof at the Global Center for Academic and Spiritual Life, 238 Thompson Street

Have you always wanted a kitchen garden, but didn't know how to start one?  Here's the plant for you: chives.  Easy to grow, perennial, and so versatile in the kitchen.  The flowers even have excellent ornamental value as you can see on the new green roof on top of NYU's new Global Center for Academic and Spiritual Life.  The green roof is visible from the Kimmel Center next door.  Chives are perfect for a sunny window box in an apartment.  If they can thrive on a green roof in Manhattan, you know they're tough!
