The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing (HIGN) at NYU College of Nursing unveiled a 115 square-foot display at 10 Rockefeller Plaza with the message: “Soon one out of every five Americans will be over the age of 65.” The display, on view January 3- 31, 2012, highlights “The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing Prepares the People who Care for those You Care about Most.”
The window space was donated by EHE International, America’s oldest and largest preventive health company. “EHE International is happy to donate the window in Rockefeller Center for the month of January to the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing. Together we hope to enlighten, inform and raise awareness about the specific needs of the aging population,” said Deborah McKeever, President of EHE International.
Since 1996, HIGN has been working to promote healthy, active aging, providing the training and tools that healthcare professionals need to better serve older adults. It has made significant progress in advancing care for older adults through several key initiatives to develop materials to be used in nursing programs and at the bedside by nurses and other healthcare professionals. HIGN is involved in advocacy, promotion of research, and enhancing the knowledge of older-adult care in nursing programs and healthcare settings. HIGN works closely with hundreds of professional nursing organizations that serve the various nursing specialties to disseminate evidence-based education on older-adult care.
“Our message is that older people can lead very healthy and active lives, but we need to ensure that our healthcare-provider workforce is prepared to support this growing population and help them achieve a healthy lifespan. We are very grateful to EHE International for the opportunity to share with so many people this message of healthy aging,” said Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing Executive Director, Tara Cortes.
