New York University’s Department of Photography & Imaging in the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television at the Tisch School of the Arts will present an exhibition of 50 photographs taken by Bryan Denton while on assignment in war-torn Libya.

New York University’s Department of Photography & Imaging in the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television at the Tisch School of the Arts will present an exhibition of 50 photographs taken by Bryan Denton while on assignment in war-torn Libya. An alumnus of the Department, Denton is based in Beirut, Lebanon and has worked as a freelance photographer for The New York Times on assignment in Libya for the past six months. Denton’s pictures appeared on the front-page for several days in a row in August when rebel fighters took over Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi’s palace. Entitled Revolution ثورة Photographs from Libya by Bryan Denton, the exhibition is curated by Fred Ritchin, professor and associate chair of the Department.

Denton completed his BFA from the Department of Photography & Imaging in 2005. While he was at NYU he also studied Arabic, Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies and spent a semester abroad in Amman, Jordan. In addition to The New York Times, his work has been featured in TIME, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, The Times of London, Der Spiegel, The Monocle, The National, Pelerin, Courrier International, The Globe and Mail and The New Republic. He also recently completed assignments in Afghanistan, Lebanon, Georgia, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iraq and Haiti. This exhibition includes work from his recent coverage of the conflict in Libya from the rebel fighter’s perspective and includes images from Bin Jawad, Mayah and Martyrs’ Square in Tripoli.

Revolution ثورة Photographs from Libya by Bryan Denton will be on view at 721 Broadway, Gulf+Western Gallery (main floor, rear of lobby).  Gallery hours: 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. weekdays; noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays.  The exhibition is open to the public and admission is free.  A reception in the Gallery will be held on Thurs., Oct. 20, 6-8pm.   Bryan Denton will offer a public talk on Mon., Oct. 24 from 6:30-8:30p.m., co-sponsored by NYU’s Institute for Public Knowledge, at 20 Cooper Square, 7th floor, Department of Journalism.
