Registration Opens for 2012 Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders Conference in New Orleans, LA
More than 500 nurses and healthcare professionals from over 175 hospitals will gather in New Orleans, Louisiana for the 15th annual NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) Conference, March 7-9, 2012 at the New Orleans Marriott. The theme of this year's conference is “Improving Health Care of Older Adults: Continuing the Journey.”
The annual NICHE Conferences are convened to give health care professionals the opportunity to share innovations and research related to improving care of older adult patients that spans all hospital settings. It is three days of workshops and panels with presentations from the leaders in geriatric care including innovators and front-line staff.
Featured keynotes include Jennie Chin Hansen, CEO of the American Geriatrics Society and immediate past President of AARP, and Alice Bonner, PhD, RN, director for the Division of Nursing Homes in the Center for Medicaid, CHIP and Survey and Certification within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Also, a panel of nurses from New Orleans will present on disaster preparedness in nursing.
“We chose New Orleans as the site for our conference this year to honor the rebuilding efforts of this great city,” says Marie Boltz, Ph.D., RN, GNP-BC, associate director, Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing, Practice Initiatives. “It also signals the renewal of our passion for the care of the older adult in this 20th anniversary year for NICHE.”
Call for Abstracts
NICHE is seeking presentation and poster abstracts for the 2012 Conference. Clinicians, administrators, and researchers will present evidence-based, innovative approaches to promote positive outcomes and experiences for the hospitalized older adult. Presentations should focus on innovative approaches in care of the critically ill older adult, family-centered care, transitions and operationalizing NICHE. Abstract Submission Deadline: October 5, 2011.
Video Contest
A video contest is also planned. Video productions will focus on innovative approaches in the care of older adult hospital patients. Selected videos will be featured at the conference and hosted on the NICHE YouTube Channel. Video Submission Deadline: December 31, 2011.
