NYU Wagner's Capstone Expo to display projects by NYU Wagner graduate student consulting teams on a wide range of critical policy questions, both local and global.

What to Do About 84 Questions of Public Importance – May 10
On Tuesday, May 10, student consulting teams will display their work at the 2011 Capstone Expo at NYU's Kimmel Center.

What is the best way to provide unemployed youth in the Middle East with job opportunities?

Are school-wide bonuses improving education outcomes in New York City?

These and 82 other issues of public policy, management, health, and finance were systematically tackled this year by students from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University. The student teams addressed these invariably complex challenges for major local, regional, and international organizations under the school’s Capstone Program.

On Tuesday, May 10, the teams will gather for the 2011 Capstone Expo at New York University. Each team will mount a small exhibit in the Rosenthal Pavilion at The Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Square South (at LaGuardia Place). With photographs, writings, and charts at the ready, the graduate students will offer summaries of their work and respond to questions from any and all attendees touring the exhibits.

The Expo takes place from 5:00-to-6:30 p.m. A reception follows.

The Capstone Expo presents a centerpiece of the NYU Wagner Master’s program – the Capstone Program itself.  A part of the school’s core curriculum, the Capstone Program enables students to work in a team during an academic year addressing challenges and identifying opportunities for a client organization, or conducting research on a pressing social question.  Students are able to experience first-hand turning the theory of their studies into practice under the guidance of seasoned faculty members.

This year, Wagner students worked on projects for nonprofit, government, and private organizations, ranging from the World Bank to Standard & Poor’s, and from the Jordan River Foundation to the Office of the Bronx Borough President. Descriptions of this year’s 84 projects will be available as a booklet at the Expo.

While the event is free and open to the public, RSVP is required. For media access, contact NYU press officer Robert Polner at 212.998.2337 or robert.polner@nyu.edu
