NYUCN's Capezuti to Deliver Keynote at Lehman Graduation Ceremony
Dr. Elizabeth Capezuti, Co-Director of New York University’s Hartford Institute

New York University College of Nursing's Dr. Elizabeth Capezuti, currently the Dr. John W. Rowe Professor in Successful Aging and Co-Director of NYU’s Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing, will give the keynote address at the Lehman College Honors Convocation. The event will be held in the Lehman College Performing Arts Center on Thursday, May 19 at 7:00pm.

“It is a great honor to be recognized yet again by Lehman College, where I formed the underpinnings of my present career in nursing. I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to address the Lehman College Class of 2011,” says Capezuti.

A Department of Nursing Honors student at Lehman who graduated Summa Cum Laude, Dr. Capezuti was, in 2008, chosen as one of the top 40 graduates of the College for its 40th commencement celebration. As one of 40 Lehman graduates honored for alumni accomplishments succeeding across a broad range of careers and professions, she was featured in a series of events and exhibitions. These programs were intended “to inspire current students to achieve their own goals and to demonstrate the excellence of the institution to the thousands of visitors and prospective students who come to the campus each year.”

Dr. Capezuti oversees the research initiatives of the Hartford Institute. Her program of research addresses fall prevention, restraint and side rail elimination, APN (advanced practice nurse) facilitated models, and geriatric work environment. Findings from her research have been used to draft both state legislation and federal regulations related to nursing home care. Her current studies focus primarily on translating effective interventions into actual practice, specifically system-change approaches to transform provider behavior. The recipient of more than $8M in research and training grants, she has disseminated the findings of 35 funded projects in 4 co-edited books and more than a hundred peer reviewed articles and book chapters.
