The New York University Bookstore will host “Secrets of Publishing,” a panel discussion on how to break into the publishing world featuring authors, agents, and editors, on Wednesday, March 2, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at its 726 Broadway location (between Astor Place & Washington Place).

Is it possible for a new writer to break into the New York Times or New Yorker? Do I pitch a piece or write the whole thing and submit it? How do I get a literary agent? How do I sell a novel, short story collection, or memoir in this economy? A panel of top editors, agents, and authors, moderated by Overexposed author and writing teacher Susan Shapiro, will answer these questions and more.
Other panelists include: Thelma Adams, author of Playdate, as well as Adams’ St. Martin’s editor Katie Gilligan and William Morris Endeavor agent Rebecca Oliver; Foundry Literary Agent Brandi Bowles; New York Times editor Frank Flaherty, a professor at NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute and author of The Elements of Story: Field Notes on Nonfiction Writing; New Yorker editor Ben Greenman, author of What’s He Poised to Do; New York Times editor Dana Jennings, author of What a Difference a Dog Makes; Diana Kirschner, author of Sealing the Deal, as well as her Wendy Sherman Associates agent Kim Perel and Center Street editor Kate Hartson.
