NYU’s Fred Schwarzbach, the author of Dickens and the City and president of the American Friends of London’s Dickens House Museum, is available for comment on the life and legacy of Charles Dickens, who was born Feb. 7, 1812.
Schwarzbach, dean of NYU’s Liberal Studies Program, has also edited Dickens’s American Notes, co-edited Victorian Artists and the City, and authored numerous scholarly chapters, articles, and review essays on Victorian and modern British literature and culture. In February 2012, he will be attending the bi-centenary service for Dickens at Westminster Abbey, where the author is buried.
Schwarzbach has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Columbia University and received his Ph.D. from London University. He has taught at University College London, Washington University in St. Louis, Louisiana State University, Washington State University, and Kent State University, where he served for eight years as chair of the Department of English. He joined the Liberal Studies Program as Dean and Master Teacher of Humanities in 2004.
