The Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University will present two cutting-edge performances of comedy and music back to back—Oct. 21 & 22—with the appearances of comedienne, actress, and writer Kristen Schaal (Flight of the Conchords) and the musical homage to Andy Warhol by Brooklyn-based musicians Dean & Britta.

Comedy With Kristen Schaal & Friends (tickets $25) will take over the Skirball stage on Thursday, October 21 at 8:00 p.m.  Schaal is best known for her role as stalker-fan Mel in HBO’s Flight of the Conchords, as well as The Daily Show’s Senior Women’s Issues Commentator.  Her other television and film credits include Norbit, Ugly Betty, How I Met Your Mother, Mad Men, Toy Story 3, Shrek Forever After and Dinner for Schmucks.  More recently, Schaal co-authored a book with Daily Show writer, Rich Blomquist, entitled The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex. Schaal’s performance at the Skirball Center will include appearances by good friends Kurt Braunohler and Reggie Walls who have collaborated with Schaal on the popular web-series, Penelope, Princess of Pets.

On Friday, October 22 at 8:00 p.m., former Luna band members Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips perform 13 Most Beautiful…Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests (tickets $20-$30).  The multimedia event was co-commissioned by the Andy Warhol Museum and Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. In this live concert performance, Dean & Britta, with their four-piece band, play both original and cover songs as a soundtrack for 13 of Warhol’s silent film portraits. Warhol had created over 500 such screen tests which were shot on a 16mm camera in black and white film in his studio between 1964 and 1966.  Included in 13 Most Beautiful… are ‘poor little rich girl’ Edie Sedgwick, Hollywood actor Dennis Hopper, model Nico, and Velvet Underground songwriter Lou Reed.
