New York University Libraries is pleased to announce it has received a gift from the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) of its Albert Sussman Library’s print collection. The Library comprises more than 1,600 print items, including directories of shopping centers and retailers, as well as other books and reports covering the global shopping center industry.
"As part of ICSC's transition to an all-electronic library that provides 24/7 access to our members, we are pleased to donate the Albert Sussman print collection, which contains more than 1,600 publications on the global shopping center industry, to New York University's Bobst Library to establish the ICSC Albert Sussman Collection at NYU,” said Michael P. Kercheval, president and CEO of ICSC.
"NYU Libraries is delighted to receive this generous donation from ICSC,” said Dr. Michael Stoller, director, Collections & Research Services, NYU Libraries. “The Sussman Collection contains a wealth of material documenting the evolution of shopping centers in the U.S. and internationally over the last half century, much of it held in few other libraries. These rare materials will now be preserved for future generations and will be readily available to students and researchers at the NYU's Schack Institute of Real Estate and the broader community," Stoller added.
“We are thrilled that NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate has this important collection to enhance our students education and research,” said James Stuckey, clinical professor and Associate Dean, Schack Institute of Real Estate, School of Continuing & Professional Studies.
The transition of the print collection was expedited by a generous donation of $9,500 from the ICSC Foundation. The contribution was made by the Foundation to NYU to help ship, process, catalog, and integrate the collection from the current Al Sussman Library in ICSC’s headquarters to NYU’s campus library.
“With our membership base having grown globally, it was apparent that a full e-library was a better logistical fit for many of our members and as such, the physical library was not being utilized to its maximum potential. We are very pleased that NYU will be able to provide a home for this valuable resource, and make it available for use by researchers and students,” Kercheval added.
Also contained in the transfer of ICSC’s Albert Sussman Library are unique publications generated by ICSC, which contain operational statistics as well as titles covering broader subject matter of compelling interest to shopping center professionals.
