The Gallatin School of Individualized Study’s Writing Program published two annual books at the end of the 2010 spring semester: the 25th volume of the Gallatin Review, the student literary and visual art journal, and the 8th volume of the Literacy Review, a journal of the best writing by adults in Basic Education, GED, and ESOL programs. Students—nearly all of them undergraduates—edited, photographed, and designed both books.
This year the Gallatin Review was not only distributed at a reading by many students whose work was published in the new volume, but, to celebrate the 25th volume, GR sponsored its first-ever exhibit of art published in this volume. Professor Sara Murphy was the faculty advisor from the Writing Program, Graduate Assistant Molly Kleiman was editorial and visual consultant, and Undergraduate Assistant Courtney Hopkins designed both books.
The Literacy Review distribution, buffet dinner, and reading by 20+ writers took place at Kimmel Center’s Rosenthal Pavilion. More than 200 guests, including the 74 published writers, their teachers, tutors, and advisors from more than 50 adult literacy/ESOL sites attended.
