NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders), the national program designed to help improve care of hospitalized older adult patients, announces the addition of Introduction to Gerontology educational modules to the new, online NICHE Knowledge Center.
The 2009 Introduction to Gerontology includes a set of four educational modules designed to:
• Increase hospital personnel’s sensitivity to the aging process
• Improve the recognition of age related changes in older adult patients
• Enhance communication skills with older patients and their families
This introductory series provides a foundation for developing geriatric-sensitive care across all hospital departments. To learn more about the series, visit: http://www.nicheprogram.org/knowledge_center
The Gerontology Course is part of the comprehensive NICHE Training and Education Programs available only to NICHE designated sites and those hospitals working toward NICHE designation.
About NICHE
NICHE is a national organization designed to help hospitals improve the care of older adults. NICHE hospitals seek to create an environment where older adult patients receive care that results in better outcomes. This climate of success encourages patients and their families to seek NICHE designated hospitals for their medical needs. The NICHE Network now numbers nearly 300 hospitals throughout North America.
NICHE is a program of The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at NYU College of Nursing funded in part with generous support from Atlantic Philanthropies and The John A. Hartford Foundation. For more information visit www.nicheprogram.org.
