Exceeds 38,000 Applications for the First Time
New York University today announced that it received the largest number of freshman applications in the Universitys history. For the first time, over 38,000 high school seniors applied to be NYU freshmen. Some 38,037 men and women applied for spots in NYUs class of 2014, exceeding last years record by 857 applications.
Randall Deike, NYUs Vice President for Enrollment Management, said, We are proud to continue to see this level of interest in NYU, particularly given the economy and the declining demographics of graduating high school students.
Since 1991, applications for freshman admission to NYU have nearly quadrupled.
The deadline for applications was January 1; applicants will be notified of NYUs admissions decisions on April 1; those who are accepted must choose by May 1.
There were 3,140 early decision applicants this year, up from 2,987 last year. This included 236 early applicants to NYUs new campus in Abu Dhabi, and 235 early applicants who asked to be considered for both campuses. NYU accepted 1,093 early applicants for the Washington Square campus, and 62 for the Abu Dhabi campus.
