The Rita and Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing in the Kanbar Institute of Film & Television at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts has announced that it will hold two concert readings of May the Devil Be Kinder by Alex Davidson, winner of the 2010 Rita and Burton Goldberg Prize Play Award for his play.

The concert readings will be Feb. 11 at 7 PM and February 12 at noon at 721 Broadway, 7th floor. The readings are free and open to the public. Seating is limited, however, and reservations are recommended. For additional information and reservations, visit: goldbergddw.blogspot.com.

May the Devil Be Kinder is set in Northern Ireland at the height of the political violence known as “The Troubles.” After his young wife and son are murdered by Ulster paramilitaries, IRA abandoner Michael “Black Massacre” Delaney returns to Belfast to avenge them. Once a legend, he is now shunned and despised by his former brothers-in-arms; he must repair burnt bridges. His goal is complicated by an unexpected friendship with a Protestant youth. If his enemies don’t kill him, his friends very well may.

Rita and Burton Goldberg, lifelong fans of the American theatre and of emerging playwrights, established the Goldberg Playwriting Award in 1998 to honor the best play or plays of the graduate and undergraduate students in the Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing.
