Concert for UNICEF’s Haiti Relief Fund to Feature Nyle, Katia Cadet, and Blitz the Ambassador —Feb. 23

Nyle, Katia Cadet, and Blitz the Ambassador will be among the featured performers at a benefit concert presented by New York University’s Student Senators Council on Tuesday, February 23, 8 p.m. at NYU’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts (566 LaGuardia Place at Washington Square South). Proceeds from the event will go to UNICEF’s “Haiti Relief Fund.”

Tickets are $30 for general admission and $50 for VIP seating (first three rows). Tickets are available for purchase online at www.skirballcenter.nyu.edu, by phone at 212.352.3101, or in person at the Skirball Center’s Box Office. For more, visit the website.

Reporters interested in attending the concert must RSVP to Mustfa Manzur, Student Senator at-Large, at mkm316@nyu.edu or 321.662.4201.

Nyle, an up-and-coming rapper and NYU alumnus, has performed at the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival alongside such legendary acts as Dead Prez, Black Thought from the Roots, and Pharoahe Monch. His LP “Capstone” is due out later this year.

Blitz the Ambassador blends the tradition of Ghanaian high life, melded together with the jazzy nuances of an upright bass, hints of reggae, orchestra strings, and a horn section that has lifted live hip hop to new heights. Often compared to KRS One and Chuck D from Public Enemy, Blitz’ journey has taken him from the streets of Ghana’s Accra City to Brooklyn’s Bedstuy. His critically acclaimed album “Stereotype” (Embassy MVMT) was released last year.

Grammy-nominated, Haitian born singer/songwriter Katia Cadet was recently hailed as an “idol” and “rising star” by the Montreal Gazette. She received her first Grammy nomination for co-writing “911” with Wyclef Jean and has worked with such industry veterans as Whitney Houston, Eric Clapton, and Grammy-winning-producer Salaam Remi. After the January earthquake in her native Haiti, she collaborated with top musicians to create a powerful song—“Lan Mo Devan M’.” Her next album, “Boundless,” due out this spring, is a compilation of music that transcends genres, regions, stereotypes, and mainstream ideology.
