An exhibition featuring approximately 50 works in photography, digital imaging, and multimedia by 12 graduating seniors from the class of 2011 in the Department of Photography & Imaging at the Kanbar Institute of Film & Television will open January 27. It will remain on view at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts through February 19, 2011.

An exhibition featuring approximately 50 works in photography, digital imaging, and multimedia by 12 graduating seniors from the class of 2011 in the Department of Photography & Imaging at the Kanbar Institute of Film & Television will open January 27. It will remain on view at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts through February 19, 2011.

Entitled, SHOW ONE, the exhibition is the first in a series of four that will eventually showcase the work of the entire BFA graduating class.  It is installed in the Gulf + Western Gallery (1st floor rear lobby) and the 8th Floor Gallery at 721 Broadway (at Waverly Place).  Subway N & R (8th St. & Broadway).  Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays. In this exhibition Rachel Ceretto documents the media at the G20 riots, Charley Damski explores the visual survey of rock n’ roll concerts as experienced on the Internet, Lianna Delpizzo explores the topic of self-awareness through photographing children, Kathryn Greenbaum captures the poetics of skateboarding, seen by an insider, Margaret Herre explores thoughts on comfort through photographing familiar and foreign suburban landscapes, Kyle Newberry uses the camera to “capture” the unexpected moments and reactions of subjects and to render them as icons of exploitation, Amalia Soto showcases that inevitable “tween” time in everyone’s life by focusing on three suburban girls at the beginning of the new millennium who are just trying to deal, Regis Trigano combines photography and installation to investigate gender, identity and the many ways in which narratives can be drawn with photographs, Jonathan Weiner presents a book about his great grandfather, his home country of Belarus, and New York, Alison Wynn uses self-portraiture to explore how context affects our perceptions of others, Shalia Yudelevich explores the collection of moments of growth and change in a girl’s life through important haircuts. Also included in the show is Angelica Marshall.

The Department of Photography and Imaging at the Tisch School of the Arts is a four-year B.F.A. program centered on the making and understanding of images. Students explore photo-based imagery as personal and cultural expression. Situated within New York University, the program offers students both the intensive focus of an arts curriculum and a serious and broad grounding in the liberal arts.
