NYU’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) will host “Quechua Week,” a celebration of language and cultures in the Andean Region of South America, from December 13 through December 17 at venues around the NYU campus and at Columbia University.
New York University’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) will host “Quechua Week,” a celebration of language and cultures in the Andean Region of South America, from December 13 through December 17 at venues around the NYU campus and at Columbia University.
Quechua/Kichwa is an indigenous language spoken by millions of people in the Andean region in South America, spanning seven countries: Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile. Quechua language and cultural practices are also present in many other parts of the world – including New York City. The events of Quechua Week range in format and span a broad range of topics – from language rights and policies to the use of YouTube in fostering international exchange.
