One recent alumnus and one student, both from Tisch's Rita and Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing, have been honored by The Michael Kanin Playwriting Awards Program, which supports student-written plays at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
One recent alumnus and one student, both from the Rita and Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing in the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television at the Tisch School of the Arts, have been singled out for honors by The Michael Kanin Playwriting Awards Program, an initiative that encourages and supports the development of student-written plays at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The awards were presented April 17 as part of the 42nd Annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), which was held in Washington D.C. (April 13-17).
Alexander Davidson (’09 MFA) won the Paula Vogel Award in Playwriting for May the Devil be Kinder. The award recognizes the outstanding student-written play that celebrates diversity and encourages tolerance while exploring issues of disempowered voices not traditionally considered mainstream.
Ayanna Maia Saulsberry (’10 MFA) won the Lorraine Hansberry Playwriting Award for King Nigga. The Award is named in honor of the distinguished dramatist and given to the outstanding KCACTF student-written play on the subject of the African American experience.
