How cities handle their huge volume of garbags, and how they might do it differently, will be considered on Thursday, May 6, 2010 by New York City sanitation practitioners and their counterparts from urban centers around the world at a symposium entitled “Fast Trash” at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University.
What if New York radically changed the way it handled its huge volume of garbage?
The question will be considered Thursday, May 6, 2010 by New York City sanitation practitioners and their counterparts from urban centers around the world at a symposium entitled “Fast Trash” at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University.
The panel of experts, which begins its discussion at 6:00 p.m., will examine on the role of garbage collection in dense urban environments, now and in the future. Independent experts, planners and officials, from New York as well as big cities in Europe and Canada, will examine urban underground waste transportation systems, their impact, effectiveness, and the contexts in which they came about.
The symposium is being held in conjunction with Fast Trash, an exhibition on the underground pneumatic garbage collection system in use on Roosevelt Island in New York City since 1975 (Apr. 22-May 23, Gallery RIVAA, Roosevelt Island, N.Y.)
