- WHAT: New York University School of Law will host a discussion with Senator the Hon. Penny Wong, Minister for Climate Change and Water for Australia. Senator Wong will give a brief outline of Australia’s vision for the road to Copenhagen and beyond, including the legal framework of the post-2012 agreement, in which Australia is closely involved as part of the UNFCCC negotiations, before an extended session of Q&A.
- WHO: Senator Wong was elected to the Senate for South Australia in 2001 and 2007, and was appointed to her current position as Minister for Climate Change and Water in December 2007. She was a member of the Law Society of South Australia’s Human Rights Committee from 1998-2002, Chair of the UNIFEM Adelaide Breakfast Committee 1999-2001 and a founding member of the Celebrating Diversity Coalition. She has also held numerous positions on Senate Committees and in the Opposition Shadow Ministry during her time in the legislature.
