After the success of the inaugural year for the Big Red Chair Family Series (BRC) last season, New York University’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts has announced the return of BRC for the 2009/2010 season. This year’s series will include Grammy-winning musicians; inventive performances of theater, visual arts, and dance; a visionary variety artist; and a new musical.
Kicking off the new season October 18, 2009 at 4pm will be New York’s own Grammy Award-winning rock band They Might Be Giants (tickets $25) performing music from their brand-new CD/DVD Here Comes Science. Kids and grownups alike will also be entertained with selections from the artists’ entire repertoire, including the Grammy-winning Here Come the 123s. From their critically acclaimed albums and videos to their film and TV music, the founding duo of John Linnell and John Flansburgh has garnered millions of fans worldwide and continues to play to sold-out crowds at home, across the nation, and abroad.
Over the years, the pair has helped kids learn their ABCs and 123s in a highly entertaining way. Their new CD/DVD Here Comes Science introduces scientific topics such as evolution and the superiority of electric cars. The song “Electric Car” is sung by Robin Goldwasser, wife of band member Flansburgh, and celebrates the bright future of electric cars with lyrics like, “No diesel, steam or gasoline, how can you deny an electric car?”
