Harold and the Purple Crayon

Enchantment Theatre Company Production is Based on the Beloved Book Series By Crockett Johnson

The second season of the Big Red Chair Family Series at New York University’s Skirball Center for the Performing Arts continues with an Enchantment Theatre Company production of The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon on November 1 at 3:00pm. Based on the beloved Harold book series by Crockett Johnson, the touring production brings the storybook characters to life with life-sized puppets, masks, music, and magic.

The Adventures of Harold and the Purple Crayon boasts direction by Leslie Reidel (Pinocchio, The Velveteen Rabbit) and music by Charles Gilbert (Assassins, Gemini). It tells the story of Harold, who, with no moon in the sky or path to walk on, simply drew a moon and path with his purple crayon, thus beginning a zany adventure to Mars, the circus, and beyond. Harold’s purple crayon and a sky’s-the-limit imagination will charm anyone whose heart is young and adventurous.

Acclaimed as “one of the nation’s most revered organizations for cross-generational theater,” the Enchantment Theatre Company creates entirely original theatre for children. The company is renowned for its signature combination of original puppets, music, masks, and live actors, a blend that was used to much applause last year in the company’s national tour of The Velveteen Rabbit.
