Four relatively little-known candidates for Mayor of New York City will have an opportunity to weigh in on issues and policies that directly affect the lives of lower-income New Yorkers at a candidate forum Thursday, October 15 at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University.
The forum will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. at NYU Wagner, located in The Puck Building, 295 Lafayette Street (at the corner of Houston Street), 2nd Floor, New York, N.Y.
The candidates who have confirmed their participation in this public event are Joseph Dobrian, Libertarian Party; Jimmy McMillan, Rent is Too Damn High Party; Rev. Billy Talen, Green Party; and Ms. Frances Villar, Socialist Libertarian Party.
The mayoral candidates forum is presented by the Wagner Policy Alliance Student Group in line with the Alliance’s 2009 -2010 theme, “Poverty in the United States: A Plurality of Perspectives., the WPA will provide the 2009 NYC Mayoral candidates with an opportunity to express their views and proposed policies concerning the poor. Too often, according to the Alliance, election agendas are remiss of any mention about communities living in poverty. City Comptroller Bill Thompson (Democrat) and Mayor Michael Bloomberg (Independent), among other mayoral candidates, were also invited.
The two topics to be covered are education and economic development (e.g. asset building, wealth creation, and financial empowerment). Questions were gathered from the NYU Wagner community and will be posed by a faculty moderator. The goal is to foster a civil discussion among the candidates.
