New York University will host a one-day conference, The Future of Risk Management, Friday, November 13, at NYUs Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences (251 Mercer Street, Room 109 [enter on Gould Plaza on West Fourth Street at Greene Street]). Speakers include representatives from the New York Federal Reserve Bank, Morgan Stanley, and Freddie Mac as well as Nobel Laureate Robert Engle, a professor at the NYU Stern School of Business.

- Lessons drawn from past failures regarding model use, risk measurement and control
- The importance of macro risk management, systemic risk management, and macro prudential supervision
- The importance and impact of industry-wide stress tests
- What firms need for their own risk management vs. what will be imposed upon them
- Lessons from and responses to key documents concerning the crisis
- The role of the risk management function in compensation management
Speakers and panelists include: Ken Abbott, managing director, Morgan Stanley; Steve Allen, instructor at the Courant Institute; Christine Cumming, first vice president, New York Federal Reserve Bank; Nobel Laureate Robert Engle, the Michael Armellino Professorship in the Management of Financial Services at the NYU Stern School of Business; Petter Kolm, a professor at the Courant Institute and the conference organizer; Anurag Saksena, chief enterprise risk officer, Freddie Mac; and Til Schuermann, head of financial intermediation, New York Federal Reserve Bank. The event is organized by the Mathematics in Finance Workshop and Conference Center at the Courant Institute.
