Thirteen faculty from New York University s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences are among the inaugural Fellows in the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Fellows Program. A SIAM Fellowship is a designation conferred on members distinguished for their outstanding contributions to the fields of applied mathematics and computational science.

Thirteen faculty from New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences are among the inaugural Fellows in the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Fellows Program. A SIAM Fellowship is a designation conferred on members distinguished for their outstanding contributions to the fields of applied mathematics and computational science.

The following Courant faculty were among the 183 Fellows selected by SIAM:

Marsha Berger, a Silver Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics; Paul Garabedian, a professor of mathematics; Courant Director Leslie Greengard, a professor of mathematics and computer science; Robert Kohn, a professor of mathematics; Peter Lax, a professor emeritus of mathematics; Andrew Majda, a professor of mathematics and a Samuel Morse Professor of Arts and Sciences; NYU Provost David McLaughlin, a professor of mathematics and neural science; Cathleen Morawetz, a professor emerita of mathematics; Michael Overton, a professor of computer science and mathematics; Charles Peskin, a professor of mathematics; Michael Shelley, a professor of mathematics and neural science and the Lilian and George Lyttle Professor of Applied Mathematics; Raghu Varadhan, a professor of mathematics and the Frank Jay Gould Professor of Science Probability Theory; and Computer Science Department Chair Margaret Wright, a professor of computer science and mathematics.

SIAM is an international community of more than 12,000 individual members, including applied and computational mathematicians, computer scientists, and other scientists and engineers. The society aims to advance the fields of applied mathematics and computational science by publishing journals and books, sponsoring conferences, and through various other programs.
